NØTE Edit | Max for Live Device for editing notes

€12+

The essential note editing tools Ableton forgot

Introducing NØTE Edit a Max for Live device which lets you reverse, invert, rotate and remap your midi notes, also called motivic transformations widely taught and used in classical melody writing.

You can perform these actions separately on the pitch (note) or on the rhythm (time) by choosing either Pitch or Rhythm.

Inversion [Pitch]

Inverts the notes (vertically in the Piano Roll) while keeping the same rhythm

Choose the type:

  • Diatonic - Takes in consideration the active scale in the MIDI clip
  • Chromatic - Ignores the current scale

Choose the reference:

  • Outermost - Inverts pitches within the range of the highest and lowest notes in the selection
  • Specific - Inverts pitches around the specified pitch. Usage: Select the midi note and press the round button
  • Root - Inverts pitches around the root of the MIDI clip's active scale
  • First note - Inverts pitches around the first note in the selection

Click Invert to invert the selected notes with the chosen options or Reverse & Invert to reverse the selected notes and then perform the inversion.

Rotation [Pitch / Rhythm]

Rotate the selected notes by a specified number of steps either forwards or backwards, changing the note's positions in terms of rhythm. For example, rotating 1 step forward would mean that the last note of the selection will become the first and the first the second and so on and so forth.

Optional Quantize can be used when rotating a rhythm to make sure that the rotation is quantized to the closest bar (meter/transport).

Reversal / Retrograde [Pitch / Rhythm]

The order of notes, pitches or rhythms, is reversed.

Mapping [Pitch]

Convert the select notes from one scale to another. There's a custom algorithm in place which optimizes functional relations between notes as to minimize duplicate notes when the From and To scales don't share certain intervals.

You can get the active chosen scale from the clip by pressing Get from Clip.

Toggle Apply Scale to Clip on if you want the destination (To) scale to be applied to the clip.

NØTE Edit is a M4L audio effect so you can add it to any track. Just click the open button and a floating window will stay afloat with controls.
